Police: Officers shot, killed man who pointed gun at them
METAIRIE, La. (AP) — A Louisiana state trooper and two levee district officers shot and killed a man who was pointing a gun at them, Louisiana State Police said.
A news release Wednesday said the man was identified on Tuesday as 52-year-old Jabari Farafiai Asante-Chioke of Laplace.
An earlier news release said several drivers told officers directing traffic about 10 p.m. Sunday in the New Orleans suburb of Metairie that a man with a gun was walking nearby, on Airline Highway near Causeway Blvd.
He was carrying both a gun and a knife, and ran from officers who approached him, the news release said. They chased Asante-Chioke, who ignored repeated orders to drop his weapons, police said.
Police said he eventually turned and pointed the gun at a trooper and two East Jefferson Levee District police. They all fired.
None of the officers was injured.
