Dozens displaced after Thanksgiving Day apartment fire
LANGLEY PARK, Md. (AP) — Dozens of people have been displaced after a Thanksgiving Day fire at a Maryland apartment building.
Prince George’s County fire officials said firefighters were called to a four-story apartment building in Langley Park around noon Thursday and found smoke coming from the second floor, news outlets reported.
Crews were able to put out the fire by early afternoon. No injuries were reported. Investigators determined that fire that started in a kitchen was accidental and caused an estimated $15,000 in damage, fire officials said.
At least 28 adults and 17 children were displaced and each family has a place to stay “until power is restored,” officials said.
The Prince George’s County Office of Emergency Management and the property manager are assisting the displaced residents.
